Lot Essay

The original marble group, from which this is derived, is in the garden of the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome. From the time of Giambologna and Susini onward it was a favourite subject and was reproduced by the foundrymen of Rome in the late 18th century for sale to people on the Grand Tours.
