A preparatory study for the two male figures appearing in reverse in the etching illustrating Moliére's play Dom Garcie de Navarre ou le Prince Jaloux in the new edition of Moliére's work published in 1734 by P. Prault. Boucher was commisioned to update with 18th Century costume the 33 engravings by Brissart which had been published in the edition of 1682. The complete drawn compositions by Boucher formerly in the James de Rothschild collection, are now at the Bibliothéque Nationale in Paris.
