Lot Essay

Koizume Tomohide was born in Fukushima Prefecture and studied at the Tama Art School in the Japanese-style painting division. He completed his graduate work there in 1969, and taught high school for twelve years. He had his first solo exhibition in 1975 at Ginza Shiseido Gallery, for which he received critical notice as an emerging artist. He participated in the Yamatane Museum exhibitions in 1979, 1981 and 1983. In 1984 one of his paintings was purchased by the Kitazawa Museum and another was purchased in 1986 by the Omishima Museum. In the last decade Koizume's work, based on nature, has become more refined and poetic, contemplative in mood and dreamily atmospheric.
