Born in Tokyo, Doi graduated from the Nihon Bijutsu Gakko in 1956. While a member of the Pacific Art Association, he exhibited and won four awards for his paintings. He has had solo and group exhibitions
at the Nichido Salon and at Fuji Art Gallery in Tokyo. As in the painting of peonies offered here, Doi is known for painting the flowers of the seasons in a realistic manner, filled with the play of light and shadow.
