Post (op. cit.., 1933, IV, part II, pp. 632-634) identifies two works by an unknown Aragonese artist in the church of Torralba de Ribota. The first, an altarpiece illustrating sixteen scenes from the life of Saint Felix now in the sacristy, is known only in part. They once constituted a section of the retable over the high altar of the church, which is dedicated to Saint Felix. The second retable illustrates the life of Saint Andrew. In the gold background of both retables can be a found a distinctive incised ivy motif. Post (ibid.)
Having identified the present painting as a third work by this hand, Post, loc. cit.,ascribes the group to the Torralba Master. Post notes that the 'Crucifixion' contains many of the characteristic details associated with the other known works by the artist, including the unique Torralba motif of an incised ivy motif in the gold background
