Wethey loc. cit. notes that no original of this composition by El Greco is known and he doubts that one ever existed. He also states that the above lot is the best example of this composition and shows the saint in an attitude similar to that of El Greco's Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata in the Escorial, Madrid except that the saint is not wearing his hood
