A companion painting by Mercier representing an Allegory of Poetry, also signed and dated 1740, (62 1/2 x 56 inches) was in the collection of the Duke of Leeds and was sold by Foster's in 1909. Its present whereabouts are unknown (Ingamells and Raines, op. cit., no. 223)
