LYSONS, SAMUEL. An Account of Roman Antiquities discoverd at Woodchester in the County of Gloucester. London 1797. Large folio, 567 x 416mm. (22 3/8 x 16 3/8in.), contemporary English pale calf spine and edges, acid-etched stencil palmette borders, covers with paper inset panels, the upper cover with the paper label from the original boards painted, marbled and laid down, spine in eight compartments with seven raised bands, gilt panelled and one compartment with red morocco gilt lettered label, marbled endpapers, yellow edges, in the style of Edwards of Halifax, head and foot of spine, corners and edges rubbed, slight marginal stain on plate XIV, text foxed. Hand-colored title-page, hand-colored dedication page and 40 plates, 31 of them fully or partly hand-colored aquatints, 8 of them double page, 2 vignettes in the text, by Tovey, Feisinger and others after Lysons, Flaxman and others, on Whatman paper watermarked 1794, English and French text.
