A HEIANJO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700)

The rounded square iron plate has a hammered surface and is inlaid in brass with a design of scrolling cherry blossoms, six on the face and five on the reverse. The slightly rounded rim has a few iron bones. The hammer work is in the style of the Saotome school. The hitsu-ana are original and the brass inlay is in excellent condition--height 8.9cm., width 8.5cm., thickness 4.5mm.
