A KYO-SUKASHI TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1625)

The iron plate is a chrysanthemum-petal shape pierced with fourteen spokes formed as birds in flight. At the top and bottom are stylized flower buds. The hitsu-ana are outlined as ginger buds (myoga) and they are carved almost in the round. The rounded edge has some fine iron bones--height and width 6.8cm., thickness 4.5mm.

Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., dated 1964.
