The round iron plate is pierced with a design of two diagonal bars and two cherry blossoms (sakura nibiki). The rim is rounded and has slight running iron bones--height and width 8.1cm., thickness 5.5mm.

Lot Essay

This classic Higo design was also used by the Umetada school. In this case both the spacing of the bars, the shape of the flowers, and the shape of the hitsu-ana indicate Higo workmanship.
