Iwata Norisuke II (fl. 1825-1850) was more skillful than Norisuke I. His fame rests on the many fine copies he made of the work of the second Yamakichibei, Nobuie, and Yasuchika using both iron and soft metals. As is seen in the present example, he could make surface textures equal to those of his contemporary, Kamiyoshi Rakuju. Norisuke II was a retainer of the Tokugawa bakufu and taught several students to make copies of great earlier works.
