A LACQUER DECORATED IRON TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800), SIGNED UMEMURA
The rounded iron plate with concave surface is carved with a design of informal kiri blossoms. The raised rim and slightly rounded edge have very strong iron bones. Both hitsu-ana are in kozuka shape. The surface has a later decoration in lacquer depicting a blossoming morning glory on a bamboo trellis, signed in gold lacquer--height 8.5cm., width 8cm., thickness at center 3.5mm., at edge 7.25mm.
