A GOTO SCHOOL KOZUKA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1650), ATTESTED TO GOTO RENJO BY GOTO ENJO

The shakudo nanako plate is decorated in shakudo, gold, silver, and high-relief copper. The decoration depicts the animals of the zodiac. The frame is gold-covered copper and is rendered with a yasurime surface. The back is inscribed Renjo saku Mitsutaka with kao. There is some rubbing and dents to the frame and the face of the dragon--length 9.7cm., thickness 7.25mm.

Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 243, dated April 15th, 1971.

Lot Essay

Goto Renjo (Mitsutomo, 1627-1708) was the tenth Shirobei mainline master of the Goto school. He was the son of Goto Sokujo (1600-1631), the eighth mainline master.

Goto Enjo (Mitsutaka, 1721-1784), was the thirteenth Shirobei mainline master.
