The pair of solid gold fittings are formed and carved as mosquitos and butterflies. The details are well carved--length 6.2cm., thickness 5mm. (2)

Lot Essay

The back of one of these menuki has an inlaid gold tablet inscribed Injo with kao. This refers to Goto Injo (1621-1689), the founder of the Shichiroemon branch line of the Goto school. These menuki are not old enough to be his work.
