AN OMORI SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1830), SIGNED OMORI TERUMITSU AND KAO

The round iron plate tapers to the edge. The lower half is carved in high relief and inlaid in shakudo and gold, with the head of a carp appearing above high, Omori-style waves. The reverse is similarly decorated. The hitsu are plugged with gold 'cat-scratched' plates. There are some small rust spots om the top left of the face of the plate--height 7.9cm., width 7.7cm., thickness at center 5.25mm., at edge 4.5mm.

Lot Essay

Omori Terumitsu (1785-1845) was the fifth son of Omori Teruhide (1730-1798). He was a talented artist who worked both in iron and soft metals.
