EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800), SIGNED ICHIRAKUSAI BUNJI (FUMIHARU)

The round shibuichi plate is inlaid in opaque cloisonné (doro shippo) with gold cloisons in the Hirata school style depicting small flowerheads on each side--height 7.2cm., width 6.9cm., thickness 3.5mm.

Lot Essay

This shippo guard was not made by a member of the Hirata school but by a tachi fitting maker living in Owari and working for the Tokugawa family circa 1800. He probably made this to order as part of a full set of shippo fittings.
