Lot Essay

Kagemitsu was the son of Nagamitsu. His work differs from that of his father's in the overall quietness and subtlety of the forging and tempering. The shape, however, harks back to a Ko-Bizen shape of about 1320. Its elegant curvature, overall slenderness and very small kissaki, combined with its muted and sophisticated tempering have produced an outstanding example of this smith's refined style.
