Yasuyoshi was the son of O-Sa, student of Masamune. He is recorded as being part of the Choshu-Sa group after having moved there from Chikuzen, and it is assumed that Yasuyuki was a signature of his early years. Almost all of his extant blades are signed Yasuyoshi and blades signed with the early Yasuyuki signature are exceedingly rare.
This tachi was originally as much as 3 shaku longer, and it is still a very hefty blade, typical of this period. The great clarity of the ha and ji are typical of the Sa School.
This is the only tachi by Yasuyoshi in existence. In Showa Dai-Meito Zufu Dr. Homma Junji states, "Yasuyoshi, considered to be O-Sa's son, is represented by a fairly large number of signed blades but they are all made in either tanto or ko-wakizashi form; none are in tachi form."
