EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1645), SIGNED KIKU-MON, TAMBA [NO] KAMI YOSHIMICHI (YOSHIMICHI II)
Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium size point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 6 sun, 1 bu (48.9cm.); curvature (sori): koshi-zori of 1.2cm.;increase in width of blade (fumbari): 0.8cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): small wood grain approaching 'pear-skin' (ko-itame/nashiji) of a remarkably satiny and almost grainless texture.
Tempering pattern (hamon): vigorous sudare-ba springing from a long Osaka yakidashi.
Point (boshi): small and rounded (ko-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): unshortened (ubu); file marks (yasurime): o-sujikai; end (nakagojiri): iriyamagata; holes (mekugi-ana): one; signature (katanamei): Kiku-mon, Tamba [no] Kami Yoshimichi.
Shirasaya with attestation by Sato Kanzan.
Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 314472, dated Showa 50 (1975).
