From 1933-37, Gehr worked for the New York Times. In 1938, he joined the Black Star Agency through which he began to work for Life. From 1939-44, Gehr had an exclusive contract with Life and from then until 1950 became a staffer. This print is from the series Gehr made on Harlem which was largely unpublished. Prints by Gehr are scarce.
