A CONTINENTAL SILVER CIBORIUM
18TH CENTURY, PROBABLY ITALIAN

On spreading circular foot repousse and chased with acanthus scrolls and flowers on a matted ground, the knopped baluster stem with similar decoration above flutes, a flaring foliate calyx supporting a circular bowl, the bayonet-fitted cover with similar decoration and surmounted by a cross (foot reinforced), apparently unmarked--11 1/8in. (28.2cm.) high; together with a German silver-mounted cut-glass jar on stand, circa 1870, the cylindrical jar with foliate scrolls and trelliswork decoration, the high domed slip-on silver cover repousse and chased with scrolls and flowers enclosing vacant rocaille cartouches, with openwork foliate scroll finial, the shaped circular stand with similiar rim, marked on stand and cover, cover stamped AD.
