LONDON, 1806, MAKER'S MARK OF THOMAS PITTS II

In the Rococo style, each on shaped circular spreading foot, elaborately cast and chased with a lizard, bee, beetle or a snail amid elaborate sweeping acanthus scrolls, foliate scrolls, flowerheads, and rocaille on a matted ground, rising to a knopped baluster stem with scrolls forming swirling panels enclosing masks and flowers below rocaille, the baluster socket with similar foliate scroll and rocaille decoration and engraved with two crests and mottos and a coronet, the deep removable nozzle with palmette and flute decoration below elaborate rocaille and flower rims and with similar engraving, marked on bases and nozzles--10 3/4in. (27.2cm.) high

It is interesting to note that traces are visible under the base of one of these candlesticks of the marks of the original George II candlestick used to cast the present examples; the maker's mark of Frederick Kandler is discernable.
