Of circular form, the sides engraved with four panels in imitation of staves, each panel with a Chinese character and foliate border, the flat hinged cover with similar border and surmounted by a flower finial, the interior lined with lead foil, marked under base and on cover--4 1/4in. (10.8cm.) high

Lot Essay

The Chinese characters translate Chang Y, Prosperity and Justice, on of which has been engraved inverted. A similar tea caddy by Augustine Lee Sage was sold in from the Terence J. Fox Collection of Tea Equipage in these Rooms, September 17, 1990, lot 87.
