lithograph with extensive additions in graphite, 1919, on wove paper, signed and inscribed 'Dritter Probedruck stein abgeschliffen', presumably a unique working proof (there was no edition if this version), with margins, light- and mat staining, surface soiling, extensive creasing showing mostly in the margins, short tears and paper losses at the margin edges, taped down with masking tape along the top of the vertical margin edges, framed

Lot Essay

This print differs significantly from the edtioned version both in its composition and the fact that the scene is a nighttime one.

Hofmaier records a related drawing also of a nighttime scene, calling it 'an alternative rendition' but does not mention any lithographic prints of this alternative.
