Fecha Patria (Patriotic Day) is an archetypical example of Xul Solar's most enchanting works of reveries, created between 1923 and 1930. His personal irony and his growing sense for pictorical quality are represented in the glowing sunset, the moon, a bright star illuminating the ethereal city while its inhabitants, in joyful celebration, revolve or float in a non-gravitational field.
The magical architecture, with its unstable set of buildings emblazoned with flags and supported by colums, struts, arches and stairs, anticipates by more than five decades the design of the deconstructivist architects.
