Lot Essay

Sally James Farnham, like her mentor Frederic Remington, was a self-taught sculptor. She is best known for her portraits - "good character studies and done with a flourish that give them animation." (Proske, p. 160) Another example of the present model was sold in these Rooms May 22, 1991, lot 206.
