CORAL AND DIAMOND ROSE BROOCH
Of carved orange coral, enhanced in the center by a circular-cut diamond, with two circular-cut diamond openwork leaves, on a baguette-cut diamond stem, mounted in platinum
Signed by Cartier, No. 3764483
After the second world war, naturalism returned as a dominant motif in jewelry design, interpreted either literally or figuretively. Precious or colored gemstones, as well as hardstones, were often juxtaposed to create interesting coloristic possibilities. Cartier transformed the flower into an art form using carved coral to create a three dimensional rose, accented with a diamond to represent a dew drop.
