GOLD AND CABOCHON RUBY CASE
Of rectangular outline in 14K polished gold, engraved with facsimile signatures of prominent musical personalities, with a cabochon ruby thumbpiece, gross weight--3.03 oz., 3¼ x 2 1/8 x 1/2 in.
The present gold case, originally given as wedding gift to Anna and Cornell de Kuyper, head of the Music Conservatory of Vienna, is etched with facsimilie signatures of prominent music personalities who were associated with the conservatory from the end of World War I up to 1938, the year that Germany annexed Austria and made it part of the German state. Most of the names on the cigarette case belong to famous singers from the period, such as Carl Wagner, Frieda Hemple, Ludwig Englander, and Carl Lindberger. Other names include Richard Tauber, a famous operatic tenor, and oscar Strauss, Werner Albert and Leo Fall, Prominent operetta composers.
