JAY, JOHN, President of the Continental Congress, Chief Justice. Autograph letter signed in full to his daughter Maria Jay Banyer, Bedford, New York, 12 September 1807. One page, 4to, docketed on verso. A good, chatty family letter from a concerned father: "...I flatter myself that Nancy [another daughter] will derive Benefit from the Springs, if she gives that Water a fair Experim[en]t....I wish she was as attentive to her own Comfort, as she is to that of others....Your opinion of Mary, corresponds with mine. She appears perfectly disposed to make herself agreeable to our Family....Your Recollections...will frequently and naturally extend to Times that are past; and so do mine - our attention however should not pass lightly over the many blessings which daily descend upon us, and which it is proper for us both to acknowledge and to enjoy....I recd. a very friendly...Letter of Congratulation on your Brother's marriage, from your Aunt Livingston...."
