KENNEDY, JOHN FITZGERALD, President. Autograph letter signed ("Jack K") as Congressman, to Broke Mickey of the American Embassy in Karachi, Pakistan; Raffles Hotel, Singapore, n.d. [postmarked 25 October 1951]. 4 pages, small 4to, on printed Raffles Hotel letterhead, with original stamped envelope in Kennedy's hand.
Congressman Kennedy, on an Asian tour, writes to thank his friend Mickey for his assistance in Karachi, and in a forceful but diplomatic way critiques some American periodicals being published in Pakistan. "...I have looked over the magazines you sent me I think a lot of it is quite good 'The Pakistani Girl at Southern Methodist' etc. -- though some of it seemed a little juvenile...." Rather, "I would think that the subjects, many of which are excellent could be handled in a more mature way. In addition -- I think the reproductions of the photographs are lousy -- and in fact the whole format is not good enough to compete even in a secondary way with Life [magazine]. Perhaps if it were possible distributing Life more widely there -- even if you had to pay to do it, would perhaps be better. But of course, I am not familiar with many of your problems...."
