Gorham's archival photograph of this vase is illustrated in Charles H. Carpenter, Jr. Gorham Silver, 1982, fig. 216, p. 205. Carpenter describes this work as "a key transition piece in Codman's work" as it represents his break from historicism and anticipates his famous Marteledesigns in the art nouveau style.
