BARRIE, Sir JAMES M. Two autograph letters to Mrs. Forbes-Robertson, Adelphi Terrace House, [London], 13 June and 6 July 1921. Together two pages, 8vo, closely written on Barrie's personal stationery, each with original envelpe addressed by Barrie.
13 June: "A great deal of your scenario I like very much. I think you are too long in getting at the story, which really begings with Wendy seeing Peter on the floor, and all the subtitles I should like to write myself [see lot ]. I'll do some work on it to show you how I should like it to go, up to Peter's being found in the nursery, with other things that may strike me and then if you and Mr. Robertson will come in on Wednesday...we can go into the matter. I have definitely decided not to have the play done at all unless Peter is played by a boy and the other children by real children. I think it wise to do the picture in California, and I could not go to America even tho they were done in New York. I am anxious that Mr. Owen should go (tho I fear he will be reluctant as he is a very stay at home person) and also Mr. Carole for the music...."
6 July 1921: "Herewith I send the M.S. [the typescript, see lot ] back with alterations according to your suggestions and others of my own. When you have gone thru this and considered them let us have another meeting. They make the scenario a bit shorter, but if it is still too long (as to which I am no judge while you are) I should like to show my ideas of the parts [roles] where it could be condensed...."
