A BRUSSELS BAROQUE ALLEGORICAL TAPESTRY

Worked in colors and depicting a scene from the Story of Bacchus and Ariadne, possibly the moment after Bacchus deserts Ariadne to make his journey east and has left his drunken attendants with one of the leopards which draws his chariot, within a wooded landscape with classical ruins, within a border woven with fruit-filled baskets alternating with ribbon-entwined floral sprays and alternating dolphins (faded, minor areas of re-weaving, extensive restorations)-7ft. 11in. x 10ft. 3½in. (2m. 36cm. x 3m. 9cm.)
