Lot Essay

Sears began photographing in the 1890s and by 1904 was elected a Fellow of the Photo-Secession and The Linked Ring. She exhibited her work in various salons in Europe and America from 1897-1909. Her work was represented in the collection of Alfred Stieglitz, including a variant of Julia Ward Howe, who is distinguished for having penned America's Battle Hymn of the Republic.

This is the only known print made by Sears in platinum.
