Along with Franz Roh, a noted historian and visual artist, Tschichold co-edited and designed Foto-Auge, the summarization of the exhibition Film und Foto. His work, noted for the collaging of words and pictures, gave him the reputation of being a leading typographer and designer in an arena noted for its avant-garde design. He moved to Switzerland in 1933 and published a book, Die Neue Typographie.
