This and the following 3 lots were acquired in 1948 by Dr. Aaron Swados, a Buffalo opthamologist who summered in Lake George, as a wedding gift for his son, the novelist, Harvey Swados. Harvey, knowing of his father's lifelong interest in the medium, requested his intercession in acquiring Stieglitz's work specifically. Presumeably, the elder Swados was able to secure them directly from Stieglitz. They have remained in the family until this time.
