The putto follows a model designed by Louis-Felix de Larue, circa 1780, and the satyr is after a design by Clodion. An 18th century example of this pair is now in the Residence, Munich; the satyr is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, 1986, vol. I, p. 210, pl. XXVIII.
