Each depicting a Dutch canal scene in silver and gold with a colored sky, one signed 'Zeuner fec.', one back with contemporary paper label inscribed 'Den Amstel te Amsterdam te zien als men opdebrug by het Diaconi Weeshuys staat en de zy Gerel van voor noemde huys' within giltwood frames- 14¾x16¾in. Lot Essay

A Dutchman by birth, Zeuner produced views of Denmark and England as well as those of his native country. Dated examples show him to have been working from the early 1770's. Numerous examples have been sold in Christie's London, specifically: 24 April 1980, lot 90; 28 June 1984, lot 42; 19 November 1987, lots 10-12; and 7 July 1988, lot 46.
