The yoke-shaped crestrail centered by an imbricated shell above a solid vase-shaped splat centered by a relief-carved trellis panel, the outscrolled arms and padded seat upholstered in beige cotton, on cabriole legs headed by shells and acanthus, on claw and ball feet

The back and splat of this chair relates closely to a suite of seat furniture which is partly divided between Colonial Williamsburg, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Four chairs from the set were sold in these Rooms, 23 October 1983, lots 184 and 185.
