SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND BOW BROOCH
Designed as baguette-cut diamond and calibré-cut sapphire knotted ribbons, mounted in platinum, circa 1964
Signed by Schlumberger, Tiffany & Co.
Jean Schlumberger's most common subjects in his jewelry designs are motifs taken from nature. For a few selected pieces, he turned to everyday objects for inspiration, such as a simple cowboy's kerchief that he converted into an emerald, sapphire and diamond necklace which is simplistically conceived yet understadedly beautiful. His source of inspiration for this clip is a simple knotted two-color bow, the type commonly used to wrap birthday gift. Rectangular sapphires and diamond, set in a linear pattern, emphasize the ribbed tecture of the ribbon.
