AN UMETADA SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700), SIGNED UMETADA SHICHISA
This tanto-sized oval iron plate with a slightly raised rim, is carved on both sides with half of a chrysanthemum bloom at its top and bottom--height 5.7cm., width 5.2cm., thickness 4.0mm.

The name Shichisa was used by a number of the Umetada school masters, most notably by Muneshige of Kyoto (fl. 1700).
