EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1725), SIGNED GYONEN HACHIJUICHI MASATSUNE

The oval iron plate, tapering slightly to the rim (goishi) is carved and pierced as two bunches of noshi with gold accents--height 7.3cm., width 7.1cm., thickness 5.25mm.

Lot Essay

Ito Masatsune, thought to be the son of Ito Masanaga (fl. 1700), has also been recorded as son of the first generation Masatsune (fl. 1700). Ito Masatsune worked until the age of 81, although this is the only known example of this age recorded in his signature.
