A HAMANO SCHOOL KOZUKA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800), SIGNED HAMANO MORIHIDE
The polished copper plate is carved in low relief with the sage Shinno holding a gold plant stem in his mouth. The eyes are in gold and another plant stem is in a pale gold--length 9.7cm., width 1.5cm., thickness 4.75mm.

Lot Essay
Hamano Morihide is not recorded in the lists of tsuba artists. He seems to work in the Nara Joi (1701-1761) style on this example, but the style of his signature is pure Hamano school.
