A HIGO STYLE TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700)

The oval iron plate has a pipe-form rim enclosing an openwork area designed with pine branches above and their roots below. There are many fine iron bones in the rim and edge--height 7.4cm., width 7.1cm., thickness 5.5mm.

Lot Essay

This design is found in the work of several of the Higo schools. The quality of the iron in this plate is outstanding; the guard is the work of a master.
