AN IWAMOTO SCHOOL KOZUKA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700)

The plate of shakudo nanako is carved in very high relief with a copper crayfish and several copper lines representing water. The eyes are inlaid in shakudo, and the frame is also of polished shakudo--length 9.6cm., width 1.3cm., thickness 7.0mm.

Lot Essay

Though this kozuka has a design that was favored by the Iwamoto school, and made popular by Iwamoto Konkan (1744-1801), this work is at least fifty years before his time.
