AN EDO KINKO SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800)
The four-lobed shakudo plate (mokko) has the web carved in deep relief with waves. A gold dragon in high relief moves within the waves and parts of his body appear on the face and on the reverse. Many gold dots of spray decorate the waves. The kogai hitsu-ana is plugged with gold in a cat-scratched pattern--height 7.0cm., width 6.2cm., thickness 4.5mm.
