AN EDO KINKO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800)

The shibuichi plate is of four-lobed shape (mokko). The web is carved in a wide basket-weave pattern and is inlaid in relief with vines, leaves and blooms in shakudo, gold and silver. The inlay and ground pattern repeat on the reverse. The silver rim cover is carved with bamboo joints. There is a silver sekigane in the kogai hitsu-ana--height and width 7.0cm., thickness 4.0mm.
