This artist was associated with Honjo Yoshitane I (fl. 1850) and with Seki Yoshinori (b. 1799) for whom he worked on preparatory stages of tsuba manufacture and design. He later worked on his own.

AN EDO KINKO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1850), SIGNATURE SHIBUI YOSHIMASA HORI
The round iron plate is carved as a carriage wheel and inlaid with a praying mantis in nigurome with gilt wings. Carved stands of grass with gold tassel heads grow over the wheel on both sides of the plate. The kozuka hitsu-ana is plugged in shakudo--height and width 8.1cm., thickness 4.5mm.
