A SOSHU TSUNAHIRO JUMONJI YARI
MUROMACHI PERIOD (EARLY 16TH CENTURY), ATTRIBUTED TO SOSHU TSUNAHIRO
Configuration (sugata): jumonji yari; length (nagasa): 9 sun, 4 bu (22.0cm.).
Forging pattern (jihada): wood grain (itame).
Tempering pattern (hamon): wide suguba with undulations (notare) in strong nie and with 'swept sands' (sunagashi). Point (boshi): midare-komi with small rounded point (ko-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): short and of rectangular section; file marks (yasurime): slanted (katte-sagari); end (nakagojiri): squared (kiri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (mei): unsigned (mumei).
Shirasaya with attestation by Sato Kanzan.
Accompanied by futsu kicho token certificate, no. 234614, Showa 47 (1972) giving the yari to Soshu Hiromasa; and a tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 314482, Showa 50 (1975) giving the yari to Soshu Tsunahiro, issued by the N.B.T.H.K.
